Almost certainly by GILLOWS of LANCASTER*: A fabulous early 19th century lady’s sewing/reading/writing/work table of the highest quality. We have stocked this model on three or four occasions in the past ~ this is our latest, and finest, example.
Constructed of the finest figured rosewood throughout, the many features include: original tooled leather writing surface; fully adjustable and sliding upper section; twin side flaps; two long drawers (one fitted for writing implements with original ink bottles etc.); two mahogany-lined central drawers etc., whilst the whole piece is supported on finely turned and reeded solid rosewood legs terminating in original brass castors. A lovely attractive piece of glorious colour.
* Illustrated in “Gillows” by Susan Stuart and a similar example in the Gillows Museum in Lancaster.

Dated:  c.1800
