An interesting PAIR of weighty Chinese dishes cast in paktong**. Each depicts a central dragon within a ‘border’ of a series of dragons, whilst underneath they are decorated with stylised clouds and a four-character mark to the centre. Each measures 4.5ins (11.5cms) diameter. Probably 19th century though possible late 18th century.

** Long before nickel was isolated in the West, the Chinese produced an alloy of nickel and copper and a little zinc which has the lustrous sheen and colour tone of silver. It is slow to tarnish, wears well and was used in the 18th century to make candlesticks and some tableware.

Date: 19th century, possibly earlier

Dimensions: 4.5ins diameter
