PAIR 19th CENTURY SATUMA VASES
A pretty Pair of late 19th century Japanese Satsuma Vases, each beautifully hand-decorated with sprays of bamboo and flowers, with gilded highlights and marks underneath. As with true pairs, there are slight differences between them in the handpainted decoration. Perfect condition.
- Although examples of Satsuma pottery date from an earlier period, most pieces of this highly collectable earthenware was made during the Meiji period (1868-1912) and later. It is named after the Satsuma provinces, but was made throughout Japan and in particular Kyoto.
