Mid/late 19th century Rosewood and brass inlaid Writing Box.
A good brass inlaid and edged rosewood Writing Box, almost certainly by the famous box-maker Edwards.
The case is of finest rosewood, with fine brass inlay and edging plus concealed brass military style handles to the sides. The lid sports an ornate blank brass cartouche and opens to reveal a sloping dark blue baize writing surface (the baize appears to have been replaced within the last 10 years or so – immaculate). Both baize covered slopes lift to reveal storage inside. The contents include a fine pair of brass-topped glass ink bottles, stamp tray, a lift-out pen tray with further storage under, and a secret panel concealing two small drawers. The secret panel is released by a concealed spring/loaded trigger (pressure point). Not easy to find!
Overall condition is superb, comes complete with both original working keys.
