BURR WALNUT DECANTER BOX WITH NAVAL PROVENANCE
An attractive and good quality late 19th century DECANTER BOX with an interesting provenance.
The box itself is veneered in finely figured burr walnut on all four sides and the lid, and opens to reveal the pair of original glass decanters and stoppers. (There are tiny chips to the hidden part of the stoppers and a ‘nibble’ to one rim). At the top of the lid is the inscription: “E.N.P, from the Officers of HMS Carysfort 23rd August 1885. 10ins high; 8.5ins wide; 4,75ins deep.
** Edward Noble Price joined the Royal Navy in 1864, retiring in October 1885 with the rank of Commander. He served as a Lieutenant on HMS Carysfort during operations in East Sudan in 1884, and briefly acted as Captain when Captain Stewart was invalided home during the campaign.
