274/12: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a very high quality and delightfully compact Rosewood Library Writing Table by this famous English cabinetmaker. The beautifully figured top, with its carved "gadrooned" edging, is inset with a fine old blind-tooled leather writing surface, whilst there are two shallow mahogany-lined drawers to the frieze. It is supported on particularly well-drawn solid rosewood turned and carved legs with gadrooned 'collars' leading to carved "Rigby" scrolled feet and original concealed castors. Just 34ins wide. A glorious table ~ typical of Gillows quality. c.1825

270/12: A very "smart" and impressive late 18th century mahogany "D" shaped Card Table in glorious condition. The well figured top is crossbanded in rosewood and satinwood and opens up to reveal a lovely (old but not original) green baize playing surface. Below, the frieze is inlaid with satinwood-edged "panels" whilst it is supported on slender tapering legs with satinwood tablets and inlaid with diminishing slender satinwood panels above the original brass sabot castors. 269/12: A gorgeous quality and very elegant 18th century Sheraton period satinwood Library Writing Table of beautiful colour and in splendid condition. The top (measuring 42ins x 28ins) is inset with a good gilt-tooled "apple" green leather writing surface, whilst the frieze below has three mahogany-lined drawers to both sides ~ thus allowing this to be a free-standing Library table if required. It is supported on slender tapering legs with original brass castor. A lovely Sheraton period table. c.1790

268/12: An excellent quality Regency style solid mahogany twin-pillar Dining Table of particularly good colour. The well-figured top, constructed from a single "run" of beautiful 18th/19th century Honduras mahogany has a double-reeded edge and is supported on two solid turned pillars which lead to reeded tripod sabre legs which terminate in good brass sabot castors. 266/12: A very good quality late 18th century Pembroke Table of oval shape, the beautifully figured top with twin flaps supported on lopers and crossbanded in mahogany. The frieze below contains a long bow-fronted oak-lined drawer with original brass plate handles, and it is supported on slender tapering legs which terminate in good original brass cap 'barrel' castors. 18th century elegance at its best! c.1790

265/12: A handsome and useful late 18th century Chippendale period Piecrust Occasional Table in fine condition. The solid one-piece top is well figured and "piecrust" carved around the outside. It is supported, via the original tilting mechanism and catch, on a well-turned central column with 'wrythen' knop, leading to well-formed tripod cabriole legs and pad feet. Good warm colour. 20ins diameter. c.1775

264/12: A particularly fine and very smart REGENCY period "D" shaped Tea Table almost certainly by Gillows of Lancaster. The well-figured top, with its reeded edges, is inlaid with ebony in the "Greek Key" pattern with matching inlay to be seen when the table is opened up and supported on its twin gatelegs. Below, the frieze features further ebony inlay with delightful recessed "panels" above each leg and an ebony 'tablet' to the centre mounted with ormolu. It is supported on very finely turned and reeded leg. 36ins wide; 17.5 ins deep front-to-back. this is a very fine table. c.1805

263/12: A very fine quality late 18th century George III period inlaid satinwood Demi-Lune Card Table in lovely original condition. The well-figured satinwood top is widely crossbanded between boxwood stringing, whilst the frieze below is beautifully 'panelled' with rosewood and boxwood, with oval panels of figured satinwood above each of the tapering legs which terminate in ebonised spats. When opened, it forms an elegant oval and one can see the old (but not original) baize-lined interior. A lovely table. 38ins wide; 17.5ins front-to-back. c.1785

248/11: A pretty and thoroughly original Nest of Three Side Tables in fine condition. The larger, upper table is inlaid with a rosewood and satinwood inlaid Chess/Draughts top, with twin "D" shaped lidded compartments either side, for the playing pieces, whilst the lower two interlocking tables are veneered in well-figured rosewood. They are supported on pretty solid rosewood legs united by stretchers and leading to elegant sabre feet. c.1825

246/11: A wonderful quality and particularly elegant rosewood Circular Dining Table by GILLOWS of LANCASTER in superb condition. The beautifully-figured and "book-matched" top features a shallow recessed frieze decorated with typical Gillows beading all around. It is supported on a substantial central column with a gadrooned collar, leading to the triform base, also with beading, and solid mahogany feet with original castors concealed within. The large size (54ins diameter) means that this fine table can seat up to EIGHT in comfort. A wonderful table! c.1830

242/11: A really superb quality early 19th century Regency period mahogany Drum Centre Table for a Hall or Drawing room, in lovely condition. The circular top is fitted with a dark green blind-tooled leather writing surface and revolves smoothly at will, whilst to the frieze are EIGHT drawers: four full-size and four hinged "quarter" drawers. It is supported on a well-turned central 'gunbarrel' column leading to four sabre legs and particularly good large original castors. The drawers are edged in ebony, with ebony shield-shaped key escutcheons whilst the legs are finely inlaid with tapering ebony decoration down their entire length. 28.5ins high; 42ins diameter....Gorgeous! c.1810

236/11: GILLOWS: a superb quality early 19th century Gonzalez Alvez timber (Gillows called it 'Albuera') Fold-Over Tea Table in lovely original condition. The well-figured top opens and swivels to reveal the similarly well-figured interior, and this top is supported on a magnificent base, in solid timber, incorporating a lyre-shaped frame; 'melon'-carved finial; and the turned & fluted central column which leads to quadruple legs which are 'panelled' and carved with scrolls, leading to the scroll feet and the original concealed castors. 36ins wide. Each chair features a curved upper back rail carved with scrolls and harebells; a centre rail carved with a shell and drop-in upholstered seats supported on well turned and carved front legs. 178/11: A wonderful quality 18th century Chippendale period Galleried Occasional Table in very fine original condition and of a lovely warm colour. The one-piece square top with its original baluster gallery, is beautifully figured and is supported via the 'birdcage' action below, on the superbly carved column with its fluting and acanthus-carved knop. This leads to solid tripod cabriole legs ~ also beautifully carved ~ terminating in finely carved pointed pad feet, complete with their 'soles'. A really stunning Chippendale period table. 169/11: A lovely quality early 19th century Regency period mahogany lady's Sewing Table in virtually "mint" condition. Designed and constructed by GILLOWS from the finest quality "fiddle-back" timber, the well-figured top has twin flaps and a reeded edge, whilst there is a good mahogany-lined drawer to the frieze. Further below is the 'lockable' silk-covered wool and embroidery drawer which slides forward with beaded moulding to the upper edge. It is raised on elegant "U" shaped supports, leading to reeded sabre legs and fine cast brass ornate castors. A delightful, attractive and useful table by this fine cabinetmaker. c.1810
