274/12: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a very high quality and delightfully compact Rosewood Library Writing Table by this famous English cabinetmaker. The beautifully figured top, with its carved "gadrooned" edging, is inset with a fine old blind-tooled leather writing surface, whilst there are two shallow mahogany-lined drawers to the frieze. It is supported on particularly well-drawn solid rosewood turned and carved legs with gadrooned 'collars' leading to carved "Rigby" scrolled feet and original concealed castors. Just 34ins wide. A glorious table ~ typical of Gillows quality. c.1825

253/11: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: An impressive and very smart early 19th century REGENCY period mahogany Serving Table/Sideboard with some lovely features. Below the beautifully figured "Plum-pudding" top is a wide central drawer above the 'kneehole' flanked by two deeper drawers to either side. All these are lined in best oak and are inlaid with wide ebony "Grecian" lines and fitted with their original solid ebony handles which are inset with ivory. At both ends of the front, and returned down both sides, are the typical Gillows recessed panels, and it stands upon slender tapering well-turned legs. The original brass rail completes this lovely serving table. 52ins wide. c.1805

246/11: A wonderful quality and particularly elegant rosewood Circular Dining Table by GILLOWS of LANCASTER in superb condition. The beautifully-figured and "book-matched" top features a shallow recessed frieze decorated with typical Gillows beading all around. It is supported on a substantial central column with a gadrooned collar, leading to the triform base, also with beading, and solid mahogany feet with original castors concealed within. The large size (54ins diameter) means that this fine table can seat up to EIGHT in comfort. A wonderful table! c.1830

236/11: GILLOWS: a superb quality early 19th century Gonzalez Alvez timber (Gillows called it 'Albuera') Fold-Over Tea Table in lovely original condition. The well-figured top opens and swivels to reveal the similarly well-figured interior, and this top is supported on a magnificent base, in solid timber, incorporating a lyre-shaped frame; 'melon'-carved finial; and the turned & fluted central column which leads to quadruple legs which are 'panelled' and carved with scrolls, leading to the scroll feet and the original concealed castors. 36ins wide. A wonderful table ~ typical of Gillows quality. c.1825

233/11: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a rare and superb quality early 19th century mahogany Bow-fronted Side cabinet or Chiffonier by this famous firm of cabinetmakers. Surmounted by an upper shelf supported on solid "S" scrolled uprights, the frieze conceals a long bow-fronted drawer, whilst below, the twin curved silk-lined doors open to reveal the shelved cupboard within. These doors are flanked by solid 'cabriole' uprights, whilst this lovely cabinet is supported on beautifully carved scrolled feet. Beautifully figured mahogany features throughout, and it measures 37ins wide and 20ins deep. Hard to resist....? c.1820

230/11: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a superb quality early 19th century solid satinwood Sliding-top Davenport by this eminent and highly-regarded firm of cabinetmakers. In virtually 'mint' condition, this fine museum-quality davenport features: original cast brass gallery; blind-tooled leather writing surface; fitted interior with small drawers; slides to both sides; "secret" pen-and-ink drawer (original ink bottles therein!); four long mahogany-lined side drawers (dummy drawers opposite); original solid satinwood 'apple' shaped feet; castors within, and the whole top slides forward for use. Complete with copies of original drawings, this is truly a remarkable and most desirable davenport of the highest quality. c.1820

The top, complete with its original (though well-used and a bit 'distressed') leather writing surface is beautifully gadroon-carved all around whilst there are two shallow mahogany-lined drawers within the frieze below. 204/11: A superb quality 19th century mahogany Wine Cooler of 'cistern' type by GILLOWS of LANCASTER, signed and dated by the individual cabinetmaker. Below the deep "rolled" cushion top with its rounded corners, each of the four sides incorporate fine recessed panels of figured "flame" mahogany, whilst within the plinth base ~ also with rounded corners ~ are the original brass castors. The interior is lined in lead (replaced and completely water-tight), and it is signed under: Joseph Wilcox, and dated 1841. This very fine cooler can be used as a planter or for its original purpose: to keep wine/champagne cool. c.1841

189/11: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a very good quality early 19th century mahogany Sofa Table in splendid condition and of a lovely warm colour. Of quite a compact size, this fine handsome table has a very well figured top with twin flaps above the frieze which contains its twin mahogany-lined drawers between small panels. It is supported on gently "swelling" solid ends which lead to moulded quadrants and to delightful "turret" feet with their original cast brass castors within. As you would expect from Gillows ~ a very high quality table indeed. 50ins wide (open); 32ins wide (closed); 24ins deep front-to-back. c.1825

169/11: A lovely quality early 19th century Regency period mahogany lady's Sewing Table in virtually "mint" condition. Designed and constructed by GILLOWS from the finest quality "fiddle-back" timber, the well-figured top has twin flaps and a reeded edge, whilst there is a good mahogany-lined drawer to the frieze. Further below is the 'lockable' silk-covered wool and embroidery drawer which slides forward with beaded moulding to the upper edge. It is raised on elegant "U" shaped supports, leading to reeded sabre legs and fine cast brass ornate castors. A delightful, attractive and useful table by this fine cabinetmaker. c.1810

The beautifully figured top (which tilts upwards if required) is oval, and is surrounded by the gadroon-carved solid rosewood edge above a shallow frieze and lower egg-and-dart carving. It is supported on a substantial carved solid rosewood central pillar leading to typical Gillows cabriole legs with carved knurled feet, decorated with cabochons and with the original brass castors concealed beneath.
