An excellent quality boxed set of Campaign Surgical Tools and Implements by E. Eyres & Co 1903
An excellent quality and complete boxed set of Campaign Surgical Tools and Implements.
The set is a portable campaign set from India bearing broad arrow marks by ‘Eyres & Co.’, which hails from Bombay (now Mumbai) in India. Little information has been found about the company aside from the fact that the head of the firm was a Mr Edmund Eyres Esq.
The beautifully crafted brass bound mahogany case is fitted with inset securing hooks to each end, as well as a working lock (key present). The contents are laid out across three precisely fitted stainless steel trays, with additional items in the base. The three open metal trays, stacked one on top of another, each laid out with a myriad of stainless steel surgical instruments. The trays are handily labelled Top, Middle and Bottom. Each has a pair of folding handles to aid lifting and careful placing back of each tray into the case.
To the top of the lid is a small brass plaque which reads ‘E. Eyres & Co., 1903, No. 47’ and features the government/military broad arrow mark with an uppercase ‘I’ below signifying India.
