562/08: A bit of an enigma! This is a large and extremely heavy 19th century bronze which appears to depict an Egyptian goddess. She stands partially naked holding a staff in one hand and an 'ankh' in the other, whilst dressed in a loincloth and cloak, her mid-length hair embellised with a stylised head-dress. She stands barefoot on a plinth which is cast with various heiroglyphics - meaning unknown! A high quality and impressive 30ins high.

565/08: An unusual and particularly well painted watercolour portrait of Henry Rich, The Earl of Holland which is also a bit of an enigma, as it is unsigned and undated, although there is reference to the date 1649 on both the front tablet and the detailed hand-written inscription on the reverse (See larger picture). The quality of the painting is truly superb. Unknown date............................. £750 |
| 566/08: An impressive and most attractive oil painting - on canvas - of quite a rare subject: early yachts racing presumably off the Isle of Wight. In its original carved and gilded frame, but in need of a clean, this good painting was clearly done by a professional; the sea is most evocative and there is a paddle steamer (ferry?) depicted in the sunlight to the rear.
