581/09: A particularly impressive and attractive early 19th century mahogany Canterbury (magazine rack) of 'dished' shape, with four divisions, the front and rear ones with carved uprights and turned/carved corner posts. Below is a mahogany-lined drawer and it is supported on turned feet with original brass castors. **NB:This fine canterbury is unusual in that the rear is decorated to match the front exactly; normally the backs are plain.

582/09: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a lovely early 19th century rosewood Library Writing Table by this famous and highly-regarded firm of cabinetmakers. The beautifully figured top, with its rounded corners, is inset with a fine blind-tooled black leather writing surface, whilst to the frieze are two flush mahogany-lined drawers. It is supported on well-turned end columns, leading to typical Gillows carved cabriole legs and original castors. A gorgeous table; 42ins wide; 24ins deep.

583/09: Now here is something unusual and of stunning quality: an early-mid 19th century rosewood Sofa/Games Table of metamorphic design. The gorgeous rosewood top has a centre section that slides out, to reveal the original backgammon board below, and turns over to show the inlaid chess and draughts board. To either side of the frieze are two drawers (for pieces etc) and it is raised on a solid rosewood pillar, carved with tulip leaves, leading to a quatraform base and 'apple' shaped feet with castors. Very special! 44ins wide; 22ins deep.

584/09: A charming and useful early-mid 19th century mahogany Pedestal Desk of compact size. The solid top with rounded corners, is inset with a good gilt-tooled leather writing surface, whilst below are three mahogany-lined frieze drawers. The central kneehole is flanked on both sides with cupboards (shelves within) and it is raised on a good plinth base, also with rounded corners. ** Of particular note is the quality of the timber used, particularly the fine figuring to the front, which is superb. 42ins wide; 22ins deep.

585/09: A handsome early 19th century figured mahogany Scottish Sofa Table in lovely condition and of very good value. The top is most impressive with the main veneers of "plum pudding" mahogany and crossbanded in rosewood, whilst the frieze below contains two ash-lined drawers with original brass handles. It is supported on scrolled uprights leading to sabre legs and original castors. Measurements: 53ins wide (open); 36ins wide (closed) and 26ins deep.

586/09 GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A superb quality PAIR of early 19th century Hall Chairs constructed in solid mahogany, with deeply carved "shell" backs and traditional solid seats which are supported on beautifully turned and reeded front legs. Of great interest are the original painted and gilded Coats of Arms to the backs, with an inscription (in Latin): "Virtuti + Fortuna + Comes" and the initial "M". A fine and rare pair of Hall Chairs.

587/09: An excellent quality early 19th century mahogany Chest-of-Drawers in beautiful condition. Below the solid top with its ogee mouldings, is a "brushing" slide and further below are four long graduated drawers all lined in oak with original handles and key escutcheons. It stands on shaped bracket feet and measures 34ins wide and 33ins high.

588/09: A good quality and inexpensive mahogany bow-fronted ServingTable of late 19th century period. Below the well-figured top, which is crossbanded in rosewood and edged with boxwood stringing, are three frieze drawers also edged with boxwood stringing and with brass plate handles. It is supported on shaped tapering legs which terminate in spade feet. It measures 48ins wide and with its height of 23ins, this is a true dining room serving table.

589/09: GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a wonderful early 19th century rosewood circular Dining or Hall Table with the most stunning figured top (Clik on the picture to see this!). Measuring 48ins wide, with a shallow frieze and beaded decoration all around, it is supported on a substantial simulated rosewood pillar leading to four reeded legs with laurel-carved "hips" and original brass castors concealed within the scrolled feet. A very fine quality table, as one would expect from Gillows!
